month: April 2008

When it comes to family photography, Maggie lives by one credo- don’t skimp. After our family portrait session at the UK Arboretum had wrapped up, she shared with me how her good friend gave her that advice a few years ago when her children were younger. Since then, she has worked with some REALLY great photographers. I feel SO HAPPY that I made the cut!
Here’s the first shot I captured at the entrance. Just flowers, but MAN are they pretty!

I had not been to the UK Arboretum in several years to shoot, so I was excited when Brandi asked if we could photograph her family out there. I met Brandi, Shawn, and their two cute kiddos Titus and Larkin there last night close to dusk so that we could make best use of that soft, warm light. I was really impressed at how gorgeous the Arboretum had become in the last few years. There were a TON of people out there, so much so that I had to park on the grass (yes, ironic, I know). For you adventurous Lexington brides-to-be, the Arboretum is a great place for an outdoor wedding ceremony. The Signature Club of Lansdowne is right around the corner, too, and would make a perfect reception site.
I need to give a BIG THANKS to Brandi for telling so many people about my photography. I put a ton of energy into getting things *just right*, and it makes me really happy when people spread the good news. You’re the best Brandi!

Today is the first Wednesday I’ll be posting wedding-related updates, so feel free to check back regularly to see what’s new. Those closest to me already know, but I’m putting out the word today that…drumroll puh-lease…I’m heading to LA next month to shoot along-side one of the premier wedding photographers in the business, Jules Bianchi.  Not only is she letting me third-shoot at one of her weddings, but she’s also taking the time to meet with me to discuss (read improve) the finer workings of my own photography business.  For you all who know how passionate I am about wedding photography and building my business, this is a HUGE opportunity for me to learn from the best and bring that knowledge back here to Lexington.  It’s going to be great for me, and great for my brides, too!  While I’m there, I plan to hook up with my buddy Drew in Laguna Beach, visit some of the hot spots, and meet up with another really popular wedding photographer Victor Sizemore (former Kentuckian, interestly enough).  If you’ve been to Los Angeles and have any recommendations for cool stuff to check out, please hit me up in the comments or email me directly.  Should be a blast!  -SR
