Hope Lodge Reunion

Jennifer, the associate director of the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge, invited me out to document their 1st Annual Reunion. I cannot describe to you how inspiring it is to be around these folks. Good people.

The American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge fills a very important need in the lives of those undergoing cancer treatments, providing free rooms and meals to those living outside Lexington, who need cancer treatments. Sometimes commuting is simply not possible. You might wanna look into helping out, whether financially or with your time. More information can be found HERE .

Yay! Tonight I’m posting the highlights slideshow from a sweet wedding I shot on August 2nd. Kristin and Josh had their ceremony at the wonderfully bright and open Centenary United Methodist Church. Julie Scoggins is the coordinator there, and consistently does a wonderful job with the details. Nice work, Julie! After a quick stop in Triangle Park (fun shots there, btw), the happy couple arrived at Fasig-Tipton, where Central Catering turned out a terrific meal as usual. Thanks, JD, for putting me a plate aside!

Bigga-Nay

Carson seemed to be feeling a bit better after having a cold over the weekend, so Katie and I packed him up and took him to visit the horses at Masterson Station Park. He uses the word nay for horse, and he even likes distinguishing between sizes of horses by calling them each a bigga-nay or a baby-nay. I know I’m biased, but he’s pretty dang cute.

Here’s Carson on his way to the park to see the horses. Notice that he brought his own horse. Also, can you see his little photo album? Katie and I rotate through new pictures of whatever we’ve been doing together most recently. Right now, he’s got it loaded with shots from our beach trip, or the beesh as he calls it.

Visiting with a miniature horse was our first stop. I thought it was really cool, but Carson wasn’t impressed. He quickly asked for the bigga-nay instead.

Allison and Nick

Allison and Nick have been so personable from the get-go, that, by the time their wedding rolled around, I already felt at home around them. That type of working relationship makes for GREAT wedding photography. Thanks, you two, for being so awesome!

They live outside Cincinnati but chose to have their wedding here in Lexington, wanting their family and friends to experience some of the cool horsey-vibe we have around here. The ceremony was at Mary Queen and the reception was at the Red Mile, now one of my favorite spots to shoot. THANK YOU to Matt and Angie Falcone, the owners of Bayou Bluegrass Catering, who handled the reception beautifully. The food was superb, as usual, and the venue itself is a photographer’s dream. I can’t wait to get back there!

Thanks to Jennifer Stivers showing off her family’s slideshow at work, I got to meet up with another really sweet family last week for some family portraits. Christopher sure is a cutie! Family Portraits: The Tippets Family

I love the Tippets! :) I recently helped them with selling their Lexington home and buying their new place in Richmond (my other job is in real estate). They’re fans of my photography, so as a closing gift, I told them that I would treat them to a family portrait session. It means alot to me when I get to photograph people I know. You photographers out there know what I’m talking about, right? It’s really a way to give of yourself and produce something that really lasts—a collection of memories.

New Product!

Waiting for me when we got home from our trip was a box from Pictage, my professional print company. I was so pleased to see how great this new product looks. It’s going to be a BIG hit with my clients, especially my brides. With any premium flushmount or coffeetable book order, sets of the Companion Book can be ordered. They’re 4×4 softback replicas of the larger premium albums, so they’re perfect for giving to relatives, friends, the wedding party, etc. Sets of 10 are $250, and sets of 25 and 50 are also available. Watcha think?

Family Vacation: Wrap Up

Confession time. I’ve been home from vacation for 5 days and still haven’t written this post. Vacations are awesome, but returning from them is hard. I’ve been racing around catching back up since we pulled back into the driveway. I’m ready for another vacation!

Our last day in Florida was pretty laid back. Roger and Anita (the vacation home owners) took me out on their pontoon, and then afterward, Bill and Kelly had us over for dinner one more time. As a thank-you to them, I treated them to a photoshoot at Hudson Beach. Here are a few shots from our day. Thanks again, Bill and Kelly!

Family Vacation: Florida Aquarium

We’re HUGE fans of going to the zoo and aquarium any chance we get. Tampa is home to the Florida Aquarium, which Parent magazine ranks as the #5 best aquarium for kids. We’d have to agree!

The quote below is from Loren Eisley. I actually read the book The Immense Journey back during my college days. It’s not for everyone, but it certainly resonated with me.

Carson loves horses. He calls seahorses baby horses, or actually, baby nay.
